An Acer Chromebook and Ingenie Designs

Ingenie Designs is now “part” powered by a Chromebook. The anxiety induced by lugging around my expensive ASUS Gaming Laptop was just too much, and it was just too big, power hungry and overall impractical to carry out on Coffee Shop work adventures.

The Little Chromebook That Could

When searching for a small device to work and study on, I looked towards a Chromebook. It needed to have a great battery, decent performance and excellent build quality. I took a look on Amazon and spotted the Mediatek powered Acer Chromebook 11. This looked like it would fit the bill perfectly. The device is “military certified” for toughness – basically meaning it’s meant for the education sector – and has a “20 hour battery” Perfect!

This Chromebook has outperformed every expectation. So far, I’ve been able to do Video Editing via Linux Apps, Image Editing using GIMP and even some gaming. Google Play works like a charm, opening up the possibility to play a lot of games, and install lots of productivity Apps such as Google analytics, and Google Adwords.

I was suprised at how much multi-tasking this device is capable of. I have been able to screen record whilst doing heavier tasks such as Image Editing and even Emulation.

The Tech Specs

The Chromebook runs a Mediatek Mobile Chipset – Something typically used in Mobile Phones – This is what gives the device such an edge in battery life and power efficiency. This device has 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and an 11.6 inch HD Display,

The 32GB of storage can feel a bit limiting, but remember these devices are meant for use with Google Workspace and the Google Drive.

Conclusion: I Love It!

For a mere £159 I have a device that I can carry around safely, a device that surprisingly packs a fair amount of processing power, and a device that will last up to 2 days on a single charge, The fact I can do some basic image and video editing on it is fantastic, and I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface of android or web-based solutions yet.
